Recently updated on November 1st, 2019
Google Gambling ads will soon be available to operators in New Jersey, Nevada, West Virginia, Indiana, Iowa, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. Since these states have already legalized online sports betting, they will soon have targeted gambling ads. However, the ads will have to contain gambling addiction warnings.
In addition, the ads are only allowed for sports, casino games and daily fantasy sports won’t be allowed. Google has already run a beta test back in June, and the update will be available soon. According to the American Gaming Association (AGA), there are only 13 states that allow sports betting. Of the states on Google’s platform, only Montana doesn’t allow live betting. Still, it has been approved and should be ready by the end of the year.
Getting Google Gambling Ads
New policies for the ads will require operators to supply their state gambling license to be eligible. These sites will also not be allowed to target players outside of their state. Users under 21 may also not be shown the ads. All buyers of Google gambling ads will need to supply responsible gambling information and assistance. Any ads featured also need to mention the dangers of gambling. This measured approach is closely modelled on similar ads in the UK and EU. Though it seems like Google is being far more conservative in the US. Their hesitation is self-explanatory because certain internet giants are under fire for targeting minors.
Recently, Facebook ads targeted to kids were flagged in the UK and the digital ad firm The Spinner is drawing negative attention for the stunt. Regulators Closely Involved Reportedly, Google is taking things seriously by involving regulators and legal licenses. Any companies that are targeting these ads have to supply their license from a regulator recognized in the US. This could help to prevent a scandal if they are being as careful as they claim. To date, the Internet giant has 37 percent of control for advertising across the globe. Moreover, they allow ads in 33 countries. So, we’ll be keeping tabs on Google gambling ads.
