Self-Exclusion Programs in the USA
What is Self-Exclusion
Self-exclusion is a formal process where a gambler chooses to be banned from accessing legal gambling activities in a specified venue.
The player can voluntarily exclude themselves from gaming facilities in different jurisdictions. Gamblers can simply fill out a Voluntary Self Exclusion Request form online. Players can also physically visit casinos and head to the security department to fill out the form.
Very often, we are faced with friends or family who struggle with addiction and would like to help. An intervention is used to confront the addict while ideally showing support and that you care. As the self-exclusion program is entirely voluntary, you will not be able to sign up the friend or family member. Self-exclusion programs tend to run for 1, 3 or 5 years.
Implementation of Self-Exclusion
How the self-exclusion process works is that once gamblers have submitted their forms, they will be placed on an exclusion list. If the gambler is found on the premises of the casino facilities, they will be asked to leave. Failure to do so will result in an arrest by the law enforcement authorities for trespassing.
Most casino establishments processes include the gambler submitting a facial photograph with their signed forms. The casino may also take a picture of you for their biometric facial recognition system the system works the same way a fingerprint detection would. The facial detection will be able to pick up, scan and match the gambler’s face on the casino security camera footage. The security team will be alerted, and the gambler will be asked to leave the premises.
Online Self Exclusion
Self-Exclusion online is almost impossible. There are hundreds of casino sites, sportsbooks and poker rooms. It is hard creating exclusion online, and there is a lack of self-exclusion programs specifically for online gambling. Online gambling is legal in Nevada, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Each state has to make its ruling on legal gaming in the state. There are a number of online programmes that excluded gamblers from all internet gaming activities, however, only with the casinos that they have signed up to
