What Does The Horn Bet Pay In Craps?

Home » What Does The Horn Bet Pay In Craps?

The Horn Bet payouts depend on which number is rolled:

  • If the shooter rolls a 2 or 12, your Horn Bet pays out 30 to 1.
  • If the shooter rolls a 3 or 11, your Horn Bet pays out 15 to 1.

Keep in mind that Horn Bets are typically resolved in one roll, which makes them a high-risk, high-reward type of bet.

Understanding the house edge is crucial when considering any craps bet. The Horn Bet carries a house edge of approximately 12.5%. This means, on average, the casino will retain 12.5 cents for every dollar wagered on the Horn Bet. While it’s an exciting bet, it’s important to recognize that the house edge is relatively high compared to some other craps bets.

What Is a Horn Bet?

Before we dive into the specifics of Horn Bet payouts, let’s first understand what a Horn Bet is. In craps, the Horn Bet is not standalone but rather a combination of four bets: the 2, 3, 11, and 12. Players place a Horn Bet in the center of the craps table, typically in a designated Horn Bet area. When you place this bet, you’re betting that the shooter will roll one of these four numbers on the next roll of the dice.

Types of Horn Bets

There are two main types of Horn Bets you can make in craps:

  1. Horn High Bet: This variation allows you to place a higher amount on one of the four numbers while the remaining three receive equal smaller bets. For example, you can place a Horn High 12 bet with more money on 12 and smaller amounts on 2, 3, and 11.
  2. Horn Low Bet: As the opposite of Horn High, this variation lets you place a larger bet on 2, 3, or 11 while allocating a smaller amount to 12.

That’s the basis of it. But, it gets a little more complex than that. Instead of making a regular horn bet, you can also ask the dealer or stickman to double up on one of the four numbers that comprise the horn bet. You can double up on any of the numbers. For example, if you choose to double up on the number 11 it’s called a “horn high yo” bet.

So, if you are betting $1 on each of the other numbers (2, 3 and 12) you’ll bet $2 on the 11 since you’ve decided to double up on that number. Similarly, a horn high 12 craps bet means you’re doubling on the number 12 with $2, and $1 for all the other numbers. A “horn, high aces” bet is when you choose to double up on the number 2. This means you’ll bet $1 on all the other numbers and $2 on the number 2. You can also double up on the number three if you wish.
