The Big 6 and 8

If you have played the game of craps, then you have probably seen the big 6 and the big 8 bets. The big 6 and the big 8 sit at both crap table ends. This particular bet is considered an eye-grabber at most casinos because many people know that besides the number 7, both the 6 and the 8 have the most chances of being rolled. This bet is similar to the pass line bet in that all that needs to be done is placing the casino chips in the particular betting area and then allowing the 6 and the 8 to hit prior to a 7 being rolled.

How to Play the Big 6 and 8 Bets

The big 6 and 7 is also similar to the place bet in online craps. The difference, however, between them is substantial. The payout for the place bet on the number 6 and the number 8 is 7:6 and the payout for the big 6 and the big 7 is 1:1. 1:1 essentially means that for every five bets won you will likely lose six bets. This goes for the place bet too but given the 7:6 payout that the casino player will likely receive, this allows you to likely only lose one or two casino chips rather than a total of 66. If you place the 6 and 8 the casino edge is normally around 1.5% compared to nearly 9% you will face when betting on the big 6 and the big 8. The two bets are essentially the same but located on different areas of the craps table.

Do these particular bets work on the come out roll? That is not an easy question to answer. The big 6 and 8 are always working on the come out roll while place bets are not working on the come out roll. Depending on where you are playing the game of craps, you may not even be offered the big 6 and 8 bet. Certain casinos do not have the bet, but you will pretty much find that most, if not all casinos allow the big 6 and 8 bet.

Casino enthusiasts state that rookie craps players are the majority who tend to make the big 6 and 8 bets as they will think it’s an excellent bet to make because of the odds associated with the rolling of the numbers. Casino enthusiasts as the question as to why a casino player would make the big 6 and 8 bet at a 9% casino edge when they can place the same bet as a place bet for a 1.5% casino edge? That is not to say that the big 6 and 8 is not a good bet, it is just not considered a wise bet.

It is essential to remember that there is a significant difference between a 9% payout and a 1.5% payout, but if the big 6 and 8 do in fact hit, then you will win. It is also essential to remember that the place bet is not working on the come out roll, while big 6 and 8 is. The place bet is controlled by the casino dealer who actually places the casino chips.
